ATLANTA, Ga. -- Defending champions Argentina beat Canada 2-0 in the opening game of the Copa America on Thursday at Mercedes-Benz Stadium.
Lautaro Martinez opened the scoring for Argentina in the 10th minute, with Angel Di Maria adding a second goal in the 28th minute. Canada had a few chances to get back into the game, but Argentina's defense held firm.
The win gives Argentina a strong start to their tournament, while Canada will need to regroup before their next match against Uruguay on Sunday.
