Pablo Lopez vs. Sonny Gray: A Cardinals–Twins Reunion
Sonny Gray Returns to Minnesota
Former Minnesota Twins starting pitcher Sonny Gray will return to Target Field on Saturday night to face his old team, now a member of the St. Louis Cardinals. Gray spent two seasons with the Twins, going 16-13 with a 2.90 ERA in 56 starts.
Gray was traded to the Cardinals in 2023 for a package of prospects. He has continued to pitch well in St. Louis, going 12-5 with a 3.12 ERA in 26 starts this season.
Pablo Lopez Set to Start for Twins
The Twins will counter with right-hander Pablo Lopez, who is 11-8 with a 4.47 ERA this season. Lopez was acquired from the Miami Marlins in a trade earlier this year.
Lopez has been a solid starter for the Twins, going 6-4 with a 4.20 ERA in 12 starts since joining the team. He will be making his 26th start of the season on Saturday night.
Pitching Matchup to Watch
The pitching matchup between Gray and Lopez is one to watch on Saturday night. Both pitchers have been effective this season, and they are both familiar with each other from their time together with the Twins.
Gray has a slight edge in experience, but Lopez has been pitching well since joining the Twins. It should be a close matchup between two of the best pitchers in the American League.
