‘I gotta see him go’: Son of murdered South Carolina woman to attend execution

Victim's family members release statements ahead of execution

COLUMBIA, S.C. (WIS) - As the execution of Richard Bernard Moore is set for Thursday, the family of the woman he murdered is speaking out.

Moore to be executed for the murder of Jae Won Joh

Moore was convicted of killing Jae Won Joh in 2001.

Joh's ex-husband testified that he saw Moore shoot Joh in the back of the head as she sat in her car outside her home in Forest Acres.

Joh's son to attend execution

Joh's son, Chris, said he will be attending Moore’s execution. “I gotta see him go,” he said.

In a statement, Joh's family said they are "grateful that the state of South Carolina is finally carrying out the sentence that was imposed on Richard Moore for the brutal murder of our beloved Jae Won."

Family remembers Joh as a loving mother and grandmother

"Jae Won was a loving mother, grandmother, sister, and friend," the family said. "She was a kind and gentle soul who was always there for those she loved."

The family said they hope Moore’s execution will bring them some closure.

Execution scheduled for Thursday

Moore is scheduled to be executed by lethal injection at 6 p.m. Thursday at the Lieber Correctional Institution in Ridgeville.

He will be the fourth person executed in South Carolina since the state resumed carrying out death sentences in 2021.
